Cautley Spout turns into top roping on the side of Whernside.
After returning from Scotland an seeing the lakes in great nick it would have been rude not to check out Cautley Spout on my way home from a days work in the Dales today. However a trusty source urged me to leave it until the end of the week before popping up there.
Although still keen to go out on play… Simon and I headed over to Ribblehead. A short walk past the Aqueduct on the way up to the summit of Whernside (for those of you who have done the Dales 3 peaks you will know it well) there is a great little water fall that stands about 10-12 m high.
The main fall was still running and the side was looking thin!! a decision to carefully link a selection of pebbles in the river upstream gave way to a great evenings top roping on fragile ice. Finishing with a mess about trying to see how fast, how efficient, how little placements we could make etc and we where soon back in Ingleton.
Happy as to not have lead it as on the first assent a huge lump fell off under my feet.
Technology has failed me this evening, a pic or two may have come out on Simon’s phone so watch this space.
