A selection of adventures from 2010
The Following Video is a selection of our 2010 Adventures.
GCSE Y11 PE – Climbing
I am the Technical Advisor for a large secondary school in Manchester.
The School use Real Adventure to…
- undertake structural surveys and repairs of their climbing wall
- clean and reset the holds
- create the risk management and working procedures policy
- train staff in the operation of the wall
- site specific assessments of the staff
- continual monitoring and staff development
- Climbing Wall Award trainings and assessments
- GCSE PE for climbing
Each week through Dec, Jan and Feb we are delivering the GCSE PE Climbing Syllabus.
Sally Ozanne, Rich Maywhort and I are running the training for the young people. Yesterday I was down at the school wall delivering session 1 for the red team.
The Staff we trained back in september are assisting us deliver the syllabus enabling them to gain group experience before their assessment.
Leadership Matters
On the 18th – 20th November we have been invited to attend the “Leadership Matters” conference. We are looking forward to seeing you all there!
Nothing Ventured….
Grab a cuppa and have a read of ‘Nothing Ventured’. Gives you a great insight into balancing risks and the benefits in the outdoors. Nothing Ventured
Where we stay sometimes…
Next year we will be taking over most of the accommodation at Greenside Mines, Glenridding.
We have a team of 86 young people doing a variety of outdoor activities including a 1 night intro to the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.
We will be using Striding Edge Hostel, Bell Cottage, Bury Jubilee Hut, and the Swirral Edge Barn. Our Chef, Mark and his handy little helpers will be catering for everyone staying at the huts during the adventure program.
The team at Real Adventure will be running ghyll scrambling, rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing, kayaking, DofE, caving and more from and around Glenridding that week.
We are all looking forward to it.
Just finished with a school programme!
Real Adventure has just finished delivering a great schools programme, here is what the teachers said:
“Thanks to all the team who made our residential such a memorable experience. We had a fantastic time and enjoyed all the actvities. It was great fun to see the teachers joining in with us. Thanks to Mark for the experience of eating bananas wrapped in bacon and the delicious sticky toffee pudding on the last night. We have told the Year 5 pupils all about it and they are looking forward to next year already. Thanks.”
Lucie Phelps – Head Teacher, Lindal and Marton School
Staff Training Day – Lindale & Marton Primary School
In May 2011 Lindale & Marton Primary are coming on a Real Adventure Residential. Many of the staff had never been caving before so wanted to see what it was like before being there with the young people so we headed out on a staff training day to have a look at the accommodation and give caving a bash.
What Fun!! and what a way to finnish the end of a School Year.
We will be staying at Gearstones Lodge and doing a mixture of Caving, Ghyll Scrambling, Mountain Walking, Rock Climbing and other fun stuff.
Once again our chef Mark will be cooking for us all, a must after the food we where all eating at the last residential at Rhydal Hall. The banana’s wrapped in bacon and sticky toffee pudding will have to be on the menu again!
It was raining a lot in the morning and we had to make a safety decision as to which cave we went to, one that was confirmed as we got closer to the caves and saw the level of the water in the rivers! These decisions can only be made on the day, normally we can just choose a cave that will be safe and only occasionally we have to postpone the day.
So back to Inglesport Café for a brew and slice of cake and chin wag about the day.

Thanks to the dedicated team of teachers for bringing the team away, this course has been running for many years due to their commitment.
“Pat and I organised the trip again this year: I can honestly say that it was one of the absolute best ! Dan the Man got together a fantastic set of instructors and locations / activities, and combined with our own team of superb staff and Otters we all created a week that I know the kids will always remember. Thanks to everyone – especially all the kids who were up for some pretty scary stuff – for a fantastic week.”
