Well Back to St Bees today to train some more locals in the fine art of bolting. There was a great turn out with 8 people equipped with the knowledge.
Here is a shot of the type if thing we are replacing, interesting to see just how 20 years next to the sea can effect a steel carabiner!!!
There are now 7 new lower offs and 3 completed lines with another 6 lines drilled and on there way to completion, over the next couple of months there should be enough climbs re-equiped to make it worth a visit.
BBC Radio Cumbria & Cumbria Bolt Fund
As you know I head up the voluntary role of Cumbria Bolt Fund Chair, the equipment & bolts are funded by the Fell and Rock Climbing Club, BMC, Lyon Equipment, and other various clubs and private donations.
Tonight, Alex from High Line Vision and myself headed up to Mill Side with Martin, BBC Radio Cumbria’s reporter, to talk about the work of the Cumbria Bolt Fund.
If you see this in time listen to the interview on the 22nd April between 7 and 9 in the morning.
If you miss it go to the website and use the listen again feature.
Martin was keen to get up to the action and see what we do first hand.

Cumbria Bolt Fund Workshop – St Bees
I was elected chair of the Cumbria Bolt Fund in 2008. My job as chair is to raise funds, acquire bolts and equipment, co-ordinate the group to secure access to the crags for bolting and to equip people with the skills to use the bolting equipment to replace bolts throughout the lakes and surrounding areas.
The workshop consisted of a training event in the morning and many lower offs being replaced in the afternoon. We have left a rope linking the lower off together so if you end up at St Bees to climb please leave these in place.

Church Beck User Group Meeting
Church Beck is a fantastic Ghyll in the Lake District Nr Coniston.
Tonight was a meeting of all users for the ghyll to talk about access and run through ideas for reducing erosion.
I am beginning the process of collating information of other venues throughout the Lakes that have been closed over the years and looking at way we can re-open these for use with groups and individuals.
If anyone has any information of ghylls we may not have thought about or access history that may be useful please drop me an e-mail.
See you on an adventure soon…

Cumbria Bolt Fund
I have been chairing the Cumbria Bolt Fund for just over a year with Ron Kenyon as Treasure |& Peter Latimer + James Bumbey helping out with access to re-bolt these crags.
If you have a spare moment have a look at the Cumbria Bolt Funds web site.
We are looking for keen local experienced climbers who have a practical mind and are happy with large drills and dangling on ropes.
Drop me a line if you are interested in helping out this summer.
Also keep and eye on this blog when the weather turns warm enough for the resin to go off, ill post the info of what has just been bolted on this blog and the CBF’s Blog.
Happy climbing the cold stuff.
Dan
