Winter Hill Walking and Skills – Mam na Gualainn
This weekend is a winter skills course for the civil service walking group. We are staying at Kinlochleven with 18 in the team and 5 instructors.
Today I was out with the hill walking team. With the avalanche condition as they are we made a choice to stay lower and out of the main risks.
After a quick shuttle in the morning we headed up Mam na Gualainn.
There was a really thick layer of haw frost with a significant layer of wind slab on top, however the patches of slab where isolated and it was possible to avoide most dangers.
Tomorrow I am with two climbers.

Dan Robinson, Director, now doesn’t that sound grand.
Dan, hi. Found your blog. Just a quick note to say thanks for the weekend and Sunday especially. I found it hard work but to sit up there, cup of tea, sandwich, looking out on the world below was something I will long remember. Nearly awesome. ( driving home through Glencoe yesterday came close as well) BTW – I will be submitting a claim for the stiff thighs. It is a wonder I managed to drive home. To fat, to old. Must work on the fitness if I aspire to do more and get qualified. Great to meet you and the boys. Look forward to the next time. Details on Summer ML trianing would be appreciated and fast path to assessment. Being over 50 y.o. time is against me so would like to submit experience gained in the preceding lifetime. Expecting reduced rate for returning client of course.
If you could let me have copy of the photo’s that would be great. Somethign to show my wife to prove where I was.
Cheers for now.
